Speaking to Students Matters.

For five hours on the 21st of April I volunteered my time to educate the students of Boca Raton Preparatory School. I spent a day talking to the Upper School American History classes on the importance of voting and why they should become politically engaged citizens.

It was a rewarding experience as the students participated in classroom discussions on the environment, race and gender equality, and issues dealing with education. They were a very receptive audience and I am greatly appreciative of their new found interest in politics.

Thank you Boca Prep!

On the 22nd of April, Earth Day, I spent a few minutes speaking on the environment to a cafeteria full of hungry students at PBCC's Boca Raton campus. We engaged in some enlightening discussions on policies government should undertake to preserve and protect our environment.

A very good point brought up is that if we are the sunshine state, why is there not a more concerted effort to promote solar energy?

Thank you Ecology Club of PBCC!

Quotes of the Week

Last week in an article dated April 17th in the Boca News, former Atty. General candidate "Skip" Campbell (current challenger to Sen. Jeff Atwater) is quoted as saying:

"When elected, I will take on the pay-to-play culture that corrupts our state politics and provide a voice for the people of Florida who feel too often neglected by their government."

And my personal favorite:

"Since leaving the Senate, I have watched the Republican dominated FL legislature continue to move in the wrong direction....the government go-along-to-get-along policies have brought our state to the edge of a financial cliff that threatens to topple the quality of life Floridians expect in the Sunshine State and their ability to pay for it"
Well said "Skip"!

Of course I cannot leave out my own quote posted in the Florida Atlantic University's University Press on April 15, 2008:

"We need to stop cutting education completely; fund it, fund it, fund it," Maki said. "The way the legislation looks at education now shows that it's not a top priority."
